White Men Can’t Jump; Harmless redo doesn’t reach the heights of the original, w/serviceable characters & a basic script offering up a valiant but clearly made for TV movie. Basketball is typical and Harlow can be funny but he has a long way to go to make acting a 2nd career; C-

Catherine Called Birdy; Silly romp revisioning of medieval teenage hood made delightfully savage by Dunham and Ramsey. Spotlighting ruthlessness from a bygone era bespeaks modern parallels as satirizing centuries old rituals makes today’s follies seem equally barbaric; B+

M3GAN; An A.I. riot of a film that is a hoot from start to finish. Presents ideas that could have gone to different, darker places but chooses to take typical horror route of a monster meeting its maker in a match of wits. Predictable at times but still feels fresh and fun; B+
