Barbie

Barbie; Perfect casting propels the film from silly concept to full blown cultural moment. More sad and intense at times than it is hilarious, Canadian Kens (and Alan) really bring the laughs. A small indie film wrapped in a big budget toy seller succeeds on several levels; B+

The Bubble

The Bubble; Some exceptionally enjoyable & hilarious actors, along with some Apatows, make a silly thing about a silly time when we were in early stages of Covid-19 protocols. Mocks actors for their faux hardships while being partially reflective of what we all went through; B-

Yesterday

Yesterday; Fun premise explores some of the potential fallout of a world w/o Beatles, yet wants to remain a rom com at its core. This both grounds the film but also grounds it to a halt at times. Still, actors/director fulfill their roles wonderfully in service to the story; B

Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters; A lot of lines fall flat, but sign me up for any future films w/these ladies. Invoking franchise's name was unnecessary; B

The Angry Birds Movie

The Angry Birds Movie; Surprisingly relevant depiction of colonization as told through physics video game bird characters. Who knew? B-
