Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice; Does an excellent job respecting the original while providing decent justification for revisiting the themes and circumstances all over again. The new blood meshes seamlessly and fits right in perfectly. Ortega is a draw unto herself, but O’Hara and Keaton are legendary; B+

The Flash

The Flash; Super fan service w/plenty of surprises. Well executed action scenes and the right tone throughout balances heart, humour and heroism. Fantastic script doesn’t lose itself to time travel traps, but rather emphasizes the shared tragic/treasured realities of humanity; A

Worth

Worth; Interesting behind the scenes of the work most people wouldn’t ever want to be tasked with. Dynamite actors Keaton and Tucci give nuanced performances reflecting the type of nuance required to determine what a life is worth. Slightly elevated from melodrama; B

Birdman of (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance); Virtuoso performances in a refreshingly unconventional film. Keaton is remarkable & fascinating in every moment. Percussion score and fluid camerawork propel the story forward at a blistering pace. Nutty in all the right ways; A-

Dumbo

Dumbo; Solid, family fare, though not that joyous (much like the original). Keaton relishes his villainous role with a zealous turn. Dumbo is animated with cuteness while the story and danger surrounding him is anything but; B+

Minions

Minions; Aims to please a target audience of 2-12, with adult asides that fall flat. Less inspired than despicable, exactly as expected; C+

Clear History

Clear History; Hoping it would be funnier, still nice to see the cast of David, Keaton, Hader, and others goofing off. Mildly funny fun; B-
