The Bad Guys 2; Fun little film that utilizes its great voice cast to power the quirky characters through animated hi-jinx. Revisiting the group for a sequel roots it with built-in love and concern for the characters, raising the emotional stakes a bit more right off the bat. Well animated fun; B

The Rat Catcher; The stylistic choice to keep the original short story narrative almost spoken word performed by a sparse talented cast, in what feels like an improv game played to wild perfection, comes across as insane genius. Pairing Dahl’s darker work w/Anderson’s aesthetic is fantastic; A-

The Bad Guys; Amusing sight gags from the animators tickle the funny bone, while the premise, pacing and plot are less amusing. However, give me this exact same cast in a live action remake and it’d make a great film. Would rather see them all, than only hear them. Funny cast; C+

Soul; If 2D/3D art expresses our interpretation of life, then Pixar is the filmic height of artistic representation. Taking abstract elements & weaving a narrative to explore them is a feat unto itself. A solid voice cast + music makes this mediation on life a simple pleasure; A
