Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning; Serves up 2x tense stunt sequences, w/a greater emphasis on dramatic high stakes w/somber reverence for the series/characters as a whole. It’s great entertainment, but main stunts are so far removed from what we will experience, thrill is more detached; A-

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One

Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part One; Nods to spy films over the years paired w/breathtaking stunts, fights & chases. Franchise continues to deliver by way of its returning cast gelling well w/new characters, who are great in this instalment. Pure fun w/high stakes; A-

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3; More emotional than humourous, w/a sense of closure for many characters, this volume isn’t as fun or exciting as previous two, yet still satisfying & enjoyable in its delivery of action, laughs, heart & galactic spectacle. Additions fit well; A-

Thunder Force

Thunder Force; McCarthy’s delivery makes most anything funny. The flimsy premise and telegraphed plot exist solely to service the comedic talents of McCarthy and Bateman. Unironical use of the music is baffling, especially Dreams by The Cranberries. Silly, throwaway comedy; C+

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; More heartfelt, w/cruder jokes & cuter Groot. Matching Vol. 1 is an impossible task, sequel is solid fun; B+
