The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid; Suffers from lack of clear motivation for several characters and a skimpy storyline. Halle is a phenomenal Ariel, the true highlight amongst a decent recasting, many of whom don’t get to play around much w/their roles. New songs are awful or underwhelming; C+
 

Thunder Force

Thunder Force; McCarthy’s delivery makes most anything funny. The flimsy premise and telegraphed plot exist solely to service the comedic talents of McCarthy and Bateman. Unironical use of the music is baffling, especially Dreams by The Cranberries. Silly, throwaway comedy; C+

Ghostbusters; A lot of lines fall flat, but sign me up for any future films w/these ladies. Invoking franchise's name was unnecessary; B

St. Vincent; Familiar story made interesting by the casting of Murray. Telegraphed plot is enjoyable because cast plays the right notes; B
