Y2K; Straddles the line between nostalgic humour, horror and teen sex comedy, with mixed success. The trappings of a low budget make for some entertaining creative decisions, but also frustratingly limits and handcuffs the movie. A fun concept that makes a great trailer but less so a great film; C-

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes; Better than expected, yet still suffers from trying to find sympathy in an irredeemable character. It’s neat to see earlier versions of the Games, with fun takes from new cast members. Still grossly centered around child slaughter for sport; B-

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Shazam! Fury of the Gods; Extremely likeable actors doing their best to make the most of a silly F/X stuffed super hero Greek mythology mash up. Innocent fun that outright tells motivations, more than it actually develops them. Some blatant product placement is shameless; C+

West Side Story

West Side Story; Reimagining does a great job of refreshing elements while staying true to what makes the original an undeniable classic. Songs, choreography and score remain the highlights as new cast works well within the old parameters. Doesn’t detract from its predecessor; A-
