Bob Marley: One Love; Does an excellent job of capturing what the singer meant to his family, friends, fans & his people. Follows biopic trend of focusing on a particular era rather than his whole life story, centred on the music. Ben-Adir & Lynch are equally phenomenal in their portrayals; A-

The Marvels; Super appealing trio are given little to work with, up against an uninteresting villain whose plans are neither memorable nor engaging. I’d rather watch the three go to lunch w/Nick Fury and talk about comics. Some cool use of light powers in fight scenes but feels too lightweight; B-

The Woman King; Vibrant storytelling filled w/dynamic, powerful performances from the entire cast. Using time worn Hollywood tropes to tell a story about people and places oft ignored by Tinsletown breathes fresh, invigorating air into the triumphant tale. Refreshingly joyful; A
 

No Time to Die

No Time To Die; Substitutes stunt spectaculars for emotional storytelling, which isn’t quite what a casual Bond audience wants. Barely a memorable action sequence, wasting this talented cast on this franchise when they could be portraying better characters elsewhere; C+

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel; Larson has a lot of fun in the role, making the character playful, strong, vulnerable and complex. Marvel continues to find the right balance of tone between action, comedy and drama. Nice to see Jackson’s role increased; A-
